To mark the \u2018Schofschoad\u2019 festival in Vernago, museum director Johanna Niederkofler will be giving a tour of our exhibition \u2018The valley where the Iceman was found\u2019. The short tour with aperitif will take place in the middle of the morning. The focus will be on the fascinating history of sheep in Schnals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Kurzf\u00fchrung eignet sich als Einstieg f\u00fcr die Besichtigung des campus transhumanza<\/a> (Tag der offenen T\u00fcr von 10:00 \u2013 17:00 Uhr) und l\u00e4sst sich mit dem Besuch des Hirtenfests und der Schofschoad in Vernagt kombinieren. Die Ankunft der Schafe wird in Vernagt ab ca. 14:00 Uhr erwartet, im Anschluss beginnt hier das Aufteilen der Schafe an ihre Besitzer. Die Kollegen der Alpininteressentschaft Niedertal und des Schafzuchtvereins Schnals<\/a> freuen sich auf Ihr Kommen. Vernagt erreicht man am Veranstaltungstag am besten zu Fu\u00df (200 Hm, 30-45 min) oder per Shuttle<\/a>, den die Tourismusgenossenschaft<\/a> zwischen 9:30 \u2013 16:00 Uhr mit Abfahrt an unserem Besucherparkplatz organisiert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The short tour is a great introduction to the campus transhumanza<\/a> (open day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and can be combined with a visit to the shepherds’ festival and the Schofschoad in Vernago. The sheep are expected to arrive in Vernagt at around 2 p.m., after which they will be distributed to their owners. Our colleagues from the Niedertal Alpine Association and the Schnals Sheep Breeders’ Association<\/a> look forward to seeing you there. On the day of the event, Vernago is best reached on foot (200 m elevation gain, 30-45 min) or by shuttle<\/a>, which the tourism cooperative<\/a> organises between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., departing from our visitor car park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some of the more than 1,000 sheep and shepherds, the Schofschoad in Vernago is also the place where they spend their first night on the way home and to their autumn pastures on the Val Venosta Sonnenberg. In the early hours of the morning, they will begin the second stage of their journey over the Taschlj\u00f6chl to the Kortscher Alm in the Schlandrauntal valley. This grazing practice is called transhumance. It has a long history in the Val Senales valley and was recognised as intangible cu<\/a>l<\/a>tural heritage<\/a> by UNESCO in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
